Gear and packing essentials
There is nothing professional about me, and gear shouldn't stop you from getting out there. Walking the England Coast Path at 60 is all about staying comfortable, keeping things simple, and stepping outside without overthinking your kit.

Trainers over boots
I haven't got proper hiking boots yet, and that hasn't held me back. I have been walking the trail in everyday trainers. All I take is a bottle to drink, my favourite music, and my phone to take photos. Do not worry about looking like an extreme trekker; comfort is everything.

Pockets full of dog bags
In every single jacket pocket, you will find poo bags. My wonderful dog Albie is 15 years old now and makes me smile every single day. While most long coastal miles are too far for his old legs, he still joins me for gentle stretches of the path.

Simple layers for coastal sunshine
I always try to schedule my walks when the British sun is shining, but coastal breezes demand sensible layering. A comfortable fleece and lightweight layers keep the chills at bay. You do not need expensive technical gear to enjoy the incredible English shoreline.
